Great Ideas Learning Formats Reflect Self-Directed Learning Trend

Great Ideas Learning Formats Reflect Self-Directed Learning Trend | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

A recent blog post by the National Conference Centerhighlighted six trends in experiential learning. Among them: hands-on training in a lab-like setting, as opposed to the traditional meeting room, and learning by silence, where facilitators allow more time for reflection and meditation. Another research project from the German Convention Bureaushows that groups are turning to formats that allow attendees to not only self-select their learning interests but also share knowledge informally.

Why Design Thinking Is the Future

Why Design Thinking Is the Future  | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

More than ever, attendees are better educated and more aware of their purpose both within an association as well as the world around them. They are demanding better meeting results from their boards and management. 26 different ways to meet with your team

26 different ways to meet with your team | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

The word ‘meeting’ likely conjures up an uninspiring image for you — talking through an agenda (if there is one) point-by-point, some people dominating, others zoning out. The typical format is so easy, it’s almost automatic, without really thinking whether it’s what we really need to make progress. We’re getting of tired meetings.

12 Best Practices to Name Your Event

12 Best Practices to Name Your Event | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

What’s in a name? Branding is an important step during the planning phases and many make the mistake of choosing a name and working their way outwards. What you should do is pick the name, part way through the process after you have thoroughly thought about what your event will include and what you want to get across so that you don’t trap yourself with a name that no longer fits with your vision.

Hackathons: Where Discovery & Networking Blend Beautifully

Hackathons: Where Discovery & Networking Blend Beautifully  | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Per Wikipedia, a “hackathon” is a “sprint-like event in which programmers, designers and others… collaborate intensively to advance projects.” To make one thing clear, I don’t typically cite Wikipedia for professional references; however, the dictionary definition refers to cyber hacking, and that’s definitely not what we’re talking about today. While that type of “hackathon” is designed to tear down, what we are referring to builds up and creates new ideas and opportunities for a brighter future.

Designing Events That Activate Emotion

Designing Events That Activate Emotion | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Much has been written about experiential events, those that strive to bond attendees with the corporate brand or event organization by immersing them in fun, engaging experiences. But, there is more to experience creation than delivering fun. To truly connect with an audience, the event has to plumb the depths of human emotion by addressing four key drives: acquiring, bonding, learning, and defending. It may require some new thinking about what attendees really need and how to give it to them.

"Must Read" Business Books from 2016

"Must Read" Business Books from 2016 | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

A friend of mine, Jake Kostan, sent me a question asking: What is your number 1 must read book of 2016 in each category for sales & marketing, business and culture?

That’s really tough question, I read more than 100 business books this year (not all of them were written this year), many of them very good, but if I had to list just one in each one of those categories, here they are…

Three Exceptional Panels That Sparkled with Interaction

Three Exceptional Panels That Sparkled with Interaction | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Pulling off an engaging panel discussion is not easy. As an event planner, you need to tick a number of boxes in order to achieve a great result. It starts with a trending topic that will attract a critical mass of delegates. Then, it continues with getting together a group of smart panelists, ideally with diverse opinions to create some tension. And most importantly, you need to invite a great moderator who will be able to facilitate a discussion on behalf of the audience.

The Next Biggest Thing In Events

The Next Biggest Thing In Events | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

I get this question at every event, interview, webinar, guest post I participate in. It’s a question I hate. I hate it because it forces me to make predictions. Something I despise with all of myself. Predictions are awful, they are the most preferred tool of the ignorant. If it were for predictions in the event industry, we would be having this conversation with holograms. If it were for predictions, blogs should be dead by now. I hate predictions.

The seed of all innovation

The seed of all innovation | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Often companies will say that their employees attend meetings to gain knowledge and establish contacts. They are unlikely to say that they attend meetings to get ideas. But it is their ability to capitalize on both knowledge and networks found at meetings that can result in new ideas and innovation. Goran Ekvall describes the way companies harness creative ideas and creative people as a company’s creative climate. The problem is that what a company does with the outcomes from a meeting are often outside the control of the meeting planner.
