Are You Failing Your Exhibitors and Attendees?

Are You Failing Your Exhibitors and Attendees? | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Be honest: When was the last time you surveyed your exhibitors and attendees to see how well your event technology is meeting their needs? Or asked them what tech improvements they want? According to an audience survey taken at a Transform USA session this summer, just over a quarter said they had asked that question of both exhibitors and attendees; 63 percent said they haven’t asked either exhibitors or attendees about their tech needs and wants.

Four ways to optimize your networking opportunities

Four ways to optimize your networking opportunities  | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

In the meetings and events industry, one of the key predictors of your success is your ability to build relationships with influential people who connect powerfully and create high-trust relationships fast. And just like them, you can learn to effortlessly create profitable, winning relationships with anyone you want. While industry events are ideal places to find potential customers and partners, often the results are disappointing. You do everything the experts say: shake hands confidently, look people in the eye, and give them a well-rehearsed pitch. The person shows interest so you hand them your business card. But then nothing comes of it.

What is the state of event marketing? Where is it going? These are the questions we set out to answer in a recent industry report. The resulting event marketing stats and findings were—for lack of a better turn of phrase—jaw-dropping. We know that events are effective, we know that they’re popular and if you are reading this post, then there’s a good chance that you are a believer in the power of events, too. However, for much of the history of events it’s been difficult to judge just how effective and powerful events can be. The ability to track, attribute and analyze event ROI just wasn’t there before.

Business Travel: What Me, Worry?

Business Travel: What Me, Worry? | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Carlson Wagonlit Travel, working with Artemis Strategy Group, surveyed more than 1,900 business travelers from around the globe in spring 2017 for its CWT Connected Traveler Study. While researchers found that business travelers are indeed connected—on average carrying four types of technology—they also learned that many travelers find a lot to worry about when on the road and many use strategies to relieve some concerns, including buying insurance and signing up for alerts. To participate in the study, respondents had to have made more than four business trips within the past 12 months.

On May 25, 2018, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) goes into effect. According to the EU’s GDPR website, the new law is “designed to harmonize data-privacy laws across Europe, to protect and empower all EU citizens’ data privacy, and to reshape the way organizations across the region approach data privacy.” The impact on any organization that collects information from EU citizens — including associations that hold meetings in Europe or host attendees from Europe — will be sweeping. In an article written for EU-based Boardroom magazine, which has a content-sharing agreement with Convene, attorney Benjamin Docquir — head of the information-technology and intellectual-property law department at Osborne Clarke in Brussels — explains what you need to know.

3 Techniques for Connecting With Clients | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

As an event organizer, connecting with clients is the key to a successful business relationship. A particularly powerful way to sell your skills to clients is to use Neuro-Linguistic Programming (NLP) — an advanced way of mirroring someone. “When highly influential people communicate with others, they match everything from the other person’s tone of voice, hand gestures, buzzwords, acronyms, and body language,” writes Asher. “Using this technique allows them to accomplish mirroring in a natural, unobtrusive way, quickly establishing uncommon rapport with little effort.”

Why Do You REALLY Need an Association Management System? | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Association management system, or AMS for short. You’ve likely heard the term, and you may even know what it means. (For those who don’t, an AMS is a technology solution that allows you to manage your organization’s membership using one integrated system, which includes your website and your database. Dues renewals, email marketing, event registration, and more - you name it, an AMS does it.)

Sounds great, you might be thinking. But do I really need one? I mean REALLY? We say yes, and here’s why

The Future of Meetings, According to 4 Sci-Fi Authors

The Future of Meetings, According to 4 Sci-Fi Authors | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

When it comes to forecasts, the problem is often a lack of imagination. Which itself isn’t all that original an observation, but maybe that proves the point. We think there are only so many ways to describe things. That includes the future. For 17 years now, we’ve produced an annual Meetings Industry Forecast that always follows the same approach, taking a straightforward look ahead in four sectors related to business events: lodging, exhibitions, travel, and technology. We’re still doing that this year, but we’re prefacing it with something a little more, well, imaginative.

Little and Often - Social Media Marketing for #Eventprofs

Little and Often - Social Media Marketing for #Eventprofs | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

When I was in elementary school there was a local news channel whose commercial slogan was, “There’s that news van again.” The commercial depicted a news van that was everywhere. In the days before social media, this was quite a feat to have a news van that covered the greater Tri-State area. Of course, there was more than one but the ad made it sound as magical as Santa Claus and his deliveries. Today, there are plenty of people who are mastering the Interwebs in a way that makes me think of that news van. They’re everywhere. They post consistently, always have fresh content and new perspectives and yet, we know that’s not all they do. But somehow they’ve mastered posting in a way that makes the rest of us feel inadequate. You might assume they have a huge staff behind them but not necessarily. You can be very present on the social hubs in just minutes a day but it takes planning.

5 Ways to Entice Young Professionals to Volunteer | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Recruiting volunteers is a struggle in itself, but recruiting young volunteers presents a whole new set of challenges. They’re new to the industry (and still kind of observing), they don’t have a history with your association, they likely don’t know many people in your association (again, because they’re new), so getting them to go above and beyond...well, it’s tough.
