Building event value by creating trust

Building event value by creating trust | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

When I began writing Intentional Event Design: Our Professional Opportunity, it was to delve into and provide information on designing events that are people-centric and purpose-driven. The more I wrote, the more I realized it came down to one thing: using meetings to build trust – in the organization, between teams, and between solution providers and their potential clients. To create environments that allow the time and space for conversations is part art and part (neuro) science, and deeply understanding how humans respond to live event environments is our new currency as we build the value of our industry.

Pay Attention to These Details for Ultimate Event Engagement | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

There’s nothing more frustrating than getting all hyped up for an event, and then feeling awkward and unsure about what to do the second you arrive. Or worse - going to purchase a ticket, and having such a lousy registration experience that you completely give up on the idea of attending all together. Events are crucial to association life; no matter the size or purpose, each one should be given the white glove treatment of member experience. Why Event ROI Starts with Strategic Intent

Why Event ROI Starts with Strategic Intent | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

The meetings and events industry has enjoyed numerous advances over the past two decades. Yet a sobering reality persists; for many, the ability to consistently demonstrate, even express, event value – aka event ROI – has remained elusive. In that same timeframe, digital channels went mainstream and fundamentally altered expectations around marketing transparency. At the intersection lies a simple truth: resources and budgets migrate to areas that perform. Thankfully, live meetings and events do perform, and can achieve comparable levels of transparency. Skilled staff, best practices and integrated technology are essential. Yet to really nail event ROI, there’s a broad need for something more fundamental, and it’s an activity event executives are uniquely positioned to lead.

An Event Producer's Guide to Putting Out Fires (Literally) | ELI Blog

An Event Producer's Guide to Putting Out Fires (Literally) | ELI Blog | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

Last October, I was working at an event where the main entertainment went up in flames minutes before it was scheduled to venture out into the crowd. I’m talking full-on, “turn the sprinkler system off quick before the exhibitor booths, activity stations and high-end sponsors get soaked” flames.

The entertainment was a 9-foot robot and the event was an international conference.

After we extinguished the flames and lugged the large piece of metal outside through the dock doors (and pulled out all the industrial-sized fans we could find), I apologized to our client and assured her she would not be charged, thanked the venue profusely for not kicking me out, canceled our payment to the vendor and prepared for the onslaught of incoming conference attendees who would be none the wiser, all with an external smile.

“We Didn’t Give Ourselves the Trophies” — Millennials | Inspiration Hub | Scoop.it

If I had to vote for the most unfair cliché to describe the supposed problem other generations have with millennials, I’d say it’s the concept of young people being the “trophy generation.” Although many of today’s twenty- and thirtysomethings did receive trophies and praise more than other generations, here is why I believe the stereotype is unfair. As one millennial client recently pointed out to me, “We didn’t give the trophies to ourselves.”
